All Saints' Medieval Fete 2017

A big thank you to everyone who helped raise the amazing figure of…..£5,358!

The second All Saints’ Church Medieval Fete was held this year on 17th June, one of the hottest days of the year, in the beautiful garden of Feeringbury Manor. The wonderful hot sunny day, meant we had a really good turnout, with over 400 adults plus children (with free entry) and dogs, who came along to join in the fun.

It was a really happy day with plenty to do and look at, including enjoying a walk round the garden, which was full of colour, but also had some nice cool shady areas.

Claire and Rob Fahey, both Real Tennis World Champions, opened the Fete. Robert was awarded the MBE for Services to Real Tennis last year and we were very honoured to have them to open the Fete. Our Town Crier, ‘Skip’ again announced the opening and various other events, all in his beautiful uniform.

So many members of our village participated in helping with the Fete; there must have been at least 50 people helping – it was a real Community effort and so wonderful and such fun all working together for the same end.

The Fete looked so pretty round the garden with stalls from Messy Church, tombola, homemade cakes, plants, to lacemaking, spinning and weaving. We had several commercial stalls which all added to the funds. The Fellowship of the Dragon had archery, which was much enjoyed and looked suitably medieval. Eden Falconry came along for the second year, with their beautiful eagle and hawks, which were another great attraction. However, the most fun attraction this year were the Thameside Mummers. They put on two different very amusing plays, with wonderful costumes. One on St George and the other The Derbyshire Tup, about a ram with someone dressed up in the most amazing ram’s costume. It was so hot, but he seemed to survive and it was a very touching story. The plays lasted exactly the right amount of time, not too long and were such fun.

There were plenty of refreshments with delicious Tiptree and Rodda’s Cornish Cream teas. The ladies worked so hard getting and taking the teas to everyone. Cold drinks were very popular in the heat and the Beer, Pimms & Wine Tent did exceptionally well. They even ran out of Pimms at one point but “Colin their knight in shining armour”, saved the day by bringing fresh supplies! Buntings provided hot food but probably the most popular stall of the day was Chris’s Ices, which had a constant queue for ice cream.

The stalls all did exceptionally well. All the hard work of collecting up cakes, books, plants and so many prizes for the tombola, were rewarded by an exceptional result. Not forgetting all the help given so energetically, for designing the leaflets and posters, for dealing with publicity, for collecting up all the chairs and tables, the parking, the gate, counting the money, putting up gazebos and erecting stalls, bringing the toilets, providing the music and clearing up afterwards. Everyone was so helpful and kind.

So many thanks go to everyone involved – we would like to thank our sponsors and donors and all our helpers for giving up so much time and helping to make it all such a success.  We also thank everyone who came to the Fete and helped contribute to our final total and made it a very special day!

We have already started planning for next year…keep an eye out for further details!
