Homestart on Christmas Eve

At our Christmas Eve Crib Service at 4:00pm we ask you to bring gifts which will go to families with young children, who for various reasons, are struggling at this time.  Your toys may well be the only ones these children will receive on Christmas morning and will be truly appreciated.

As the volunteers at Homestart have to ensure that the most suitable gift for their age, goes to each child we are asking this year that you do not wrap up the presents but if possible place them in a gift bag with a tag with or even in a carrier bag with some wrapping paper.  This will ensure that the gifts can be allocated, wrapped and distributed as soon as poissible on Christmas Eve.

ALL gifts given at the service go immediately to families at Christmas - they are not held ‘in store’ for next year.  Home-Start staff and volunteers work very late on Christmas Eve and on into Christmas Day to ensure that all the gifts go to the children who will benefit most.

Please read the information below to find out more about the work of Homestart. Your gifts will ensure that these families have the Christmas that you would wish for every young child.

We thank you in anticipation of your generosity.

The Aims of Homestart

What Homestart does

Home-Start helps families with young children deal with whatever life throws at them. We support parents as they learn to cope, improve their confidence and build better lives for their children. The benefits of our support include improved health and well being and better family relationships.

Providing one-to-one support for parents

Our volunteers visit the family’s home for a couple of hours every week.  They tailor-make their support to the needs of the parents and children. Volunteers are very committed and will keep visiting until the youngest child turns five or starts school, or until the parents feel they can stand on their own two feet.  Parents and volunteers often develop a deeply trusting relationship which can lead to powerful change within the family.

We also run family groups and social events for families.

How we help!

At our special family service held on Christmas Eve at St Mary's, we ask everyone to bring a gift for child, labelled with the approximate age and gender it is suitable for.

This service is always very well supported and the Homestart representative always leaves with a car bursting to the seams with Christmas presents to be distributed to families.
