Messy Church is a way of being in church for families. The aim is for the children and parents to have fun whilst learning something about the Christian faith.
Messy Church involves creativity, hospitality and celebration. At our Messy Church sessions we have a theme and there are numerous craft activities set out around the church for the children to do which are linked to that theme. The session ends in a short act of worship, which is very simple and appropriate for the children and is again linked to the theme of the session.
Lots of families joined us for crafts, games and fun at our Christmas Messy Church at St Mary's and we all had lots of fun!
Lots of families joined us for crafts, games and fun at our Holiday Messy Church at St Mary's on Wednesday 14 February, from 11am. The theme was food from the Bible including our pancake party.
On the first Wednesday of the school holidays, 26 July 2017, a Messy Church Session was held at St Mary's. The theme was 'The Lord is My Shepherd' and it was attended by over 40 children along with their parents or carers.
As the children entered the church they were handed a cardboard shepherd's crook and as they completed each of the activities they received a picture to stick on the crook.
The activities were many and varied, including weaving a picture of a river, making a sheep with wobbly legs, icing biscuits and making a large collage about the Lord's Prayer (every child added something to this wonderful picture.) There were too many craft activities to mention.
The children had a wonderful time and the session ended with a picnic lunch followed by songs and a prayer. I am sure they are all looking forward to the next one!
Thank you so much to everyone who gave up their time to make it such a success.
Everyone is welcome!
