RESTARTING CHURCH SERVICES

We areI pleased to confirm that church services on will re-start in St Mary’s next Sunday, 2nd August, at 10.00 am.  This will be a ‘United Benefice’ service and will be open to anyone in our two villages (and beyond!).  After discussion, it was agreed that many regular worshippers miss the sacrament most, so it will be a Holy Communion Service, lasting about 45 minutes Worshippers will be receiving the bread only and not the wine. I’m afraid we can’t sing hymns, but music will be played before, during and after the service. You’re warmly invited to come. Please be aware of the need for social distancing in church;  the church toilets will be open as well.

We do realise that several regular worshippers may not feel ready to return to church, so our online ‘Spiritual Communion’ services will continue for the time being and you can find these below.

You will also be aware that the Government now requires us to wear face-coverings in shops and other enclosed public spaces.  This does include churches, so we must now ask you to bring and wear a face-covering when you come to church, especially for Sunday services.  We hope this won’t discourage you from coming to St Mary’s, either for services or simply to pray or sit quietly.

SHORT SERVICE OF LIGHT

Following on from the suggestion of the Archbishops for last Sunday, I am quite taken with the idea of lighting a candle at 7.00 pm tonight (and/or any other night if you like) so I’ve compiled a short evening service around it.  I hope you find it helpful, but please don’t think you need to follow it slavishly – use it or adapt it in any way you like.

I hope you find this a helpfully structured way of praying and recalling that Christ is the Light of the world.  I hope it also enables you to pray for those in need, especially for all who feel they are currently enveloped in the ‘darkness’ of the virus, and for those who love them and for those who are caring for them.

With every blessing at this strange and difficult time,

Simon
