A message from Simon Prideaux:
"In my e-mail of 27 April I invited those who knew Anne and John Hackworth to sign the "farewell" card for them (which was duly presented on Sunday 8 May - their final Sunday in Kelvedon). At that
time I also indicated that there would, in due course, be an opportunity to contribute towards a "thank you" gift to mark their many years of service to our community.
However, typically of Anne and John, they have expressed a preference that any such collection should be of wider benefit and go to more needy recipients than them.
As many will know, Anne was - for many years - closely involved in the annual fundraising across our village churches for Christian Aid. The COVID pandemic of the last couple of years has
hindered the traditional house-to-house collection by way of Christian Aid Week envelopes but the calls upon the charity for urgent help have grown dramatically.
It has, therefore, been decided that a special fund-raising effort for Christian Aid - as a tribute to Anne and John - should be launched (after all, this is Christian Aid Week!).
The Hon. Treasurer at St Mary's (Andrew Taylor) has kindly agreed to act as the collecting point in the hope that we can, in due course, remit an impressive total to Christian Aid in recognition
of the Hackworths' huge contribution to our parish life.
Donations (in cash or by cheque payable to Christian Aid) can be sent to Andrew at;
2 Kingfisher Way
Kelvedon
CO6 9NS
Thank you"
