Kelvedon & Feering Harvest Appeal and Scarecrow Safari

Saturday, 26th - Sunday, 27th September 2020

Harvest Giving

These last five months have been hard for all of us but particularly for those who have lost their jobs pr are working reduced hours - they are struggling to make ends meet and to put food on the table. There has been unprecedented demand on Foodbanks and Witham is no exception. That is why we are asking, if you are able, to support the local Foodbank.

At Kelvedon Parish Church the Foodbank will be benefiting from our Harvest Appeal so you may drop off required items at Church either on a Sunday morning or on a Wednesday, between 9 a.m. and dusk.

The latest Foodbank Shopping List can be found here: Braintree Foodbank

Young Children & Families

We wanted to try and arrange some fun for the community with a Scarecrow Safari for the weekend 26th/27th September. Young children could colour in pictures, or make scarecrow heads out of paper plates. Do take photos and send in to Fleur Harris on: We also plan to have a permanent reminder through a special Facebook page or on YouTube.

For families, why not make a scarecrow to put in your garden to delight your neighbours? It does not need to be a traditional scarecrow, it could be a superhero, pirate, favourite character from a book, etc. Geraldine will be using cardboard boxes and bubble wrap to make hers as it will be easier and more weatherproof.

If you would like to be included in the Scarescrow Safari, please contact Geraldine by email with your address so you can be included on the Safari route.

If a Scarecrow is too much to handle, why not make a Harvest wreath or decoration for your front door? There are lots of ideas on Pinterest. Or if you are a knitter, why not knit a scarecrow to donate to charity?

Let us together have a bit of fun in the community whilst doing good for others.

For more information please see Geraldine's video:

We are starting to see some fantastic Scarecrows being made ahead of the Safari. Below are some already made:

Farmer & Mrs Conker invite you to share their bountiful harvest (bring a bag). You can find them in Church Street.
